What Are The Reasons For The High Fuel Consumption Of Excavators? Excavator Fuel Saving Tips

Jul 07, 2020

The fuel consumption of the excavator is an important item in the daily cost and will directly affect the user's profit. Many people think why my excavator consumes more fuel than others? In fact, there are several factors that secretly "eat" your oil:

1. Long-term idle speed Idle speed refers to the state when the engine is idling, that is, when the excavator is not working, the engine rotates "suddenly". In the daily operations of excavators, the idle time of equipment at many construction sites is as high as 40%-50%. During idling, the oil burned by the engine does not create value, which is equivalent to "burning money."

Take a piece of equipment that works 2000 hours per year as an example. If the idle speed reaches 40%, it is calculated based on the consumption of about 3.7 liters of fuel for 1 hour of idle speed. This equipment generates an additional fuel cost of about 20,000 yuan a year. Small expenses.

Reduce fuel consumption: you need to reduce idle time immediately

● Reduce the idle time before shutdown, the new engine does not need idle speed, some engines need to idle for 2 minutes.

● When loading/unloading, the truck waits for more than 5 minutes, please stop and stop the engine.

● Before starting work every day, the equipment can be preheated for 3 to 5 minutes, which should not be too long.

● If the engine is equipped with an idle stop system (the system will automatically shut down the engine after the idle time set by the operator), please turn on this function.

● When the operator is not working during rest, eating, etc., please stop the engine and stop the flame.

● Effectively manage construction vehicles and reduce idle speed through measures such as improving driving routes.

2. Poor site management

Different construction sites, equipment operation and layout will affect the overall fuel consumption and production efficiency of the excavator. Grasp the two "degrees" and quickly find fuel-efficient and efficient cheats.

3. If the loading height excavator works on a high platform, the height of the high platform is preferably equal to the length of the stick, then the fuel efficiency is the highest. Do the same job with the least oil. If the height of the platform is not enough, not only will it increase the slewing time and fuel consumption, but the bucket will not be easily filled.

4. Rotation angle

In the excavator loading operation, the rotation angle of the excavator must not exceed 60 degrees, and the range of 30 degrees to 45 degrees is more suitable. The smaller the angle, the faster the rotation and the higher the output, the lower the fuel consumption.

5. Insufficient tire pressure of the tire excavator

Studies have shown that the correct use of radial tires can save up to 10% of fuel consumption. Among them, the effect of tire pressure on fuel efficiency is the most significant. When the tire pressure is insufficient, the resistance of the excavator increases, the fuel consumption increases, and the output decreases due to unstable equipment movement.

6. Operator level

The survey shows that a skilled pilot can effectively reduce fuel consumption by as much as 10-12%. Moreover, 30% of contractors believe that high-level pilots are the key to business success! A good pilot should have experienced construction experience, excellent driving level and rich construction knowledge in order to improve production efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

Today, I will provide you with some fuel-saving tips for excavator operation.

Before sharing, think of yourself as a digging machine, digging a machine to save fuel is equivalent to working hard and saving effort, so that you can understand the truth more clearly.

01 When loading, the excavator should be in a higher position as far as possible, and stand in a high position when conditions are not created, so that the truck is parked at almost the same height as the working surface; the reason is very simple, a stone, you lift it to your knee and Is it the same as lifting it to the top of your head? How much "jiner" can be saved?

Compared with direct low-level mining, the cycle time can be shortened by about 12%, and the fuel consumption can be reduced by about 8%, and the operating efficiency can be improved by about 40%, which is not a small number.

02 When the bucket cylinder and connecting rod, head rod cylinder and head rod are all at 90°, each cylinder drives the excavator the most.

03 Excavate the natural ground, keep the bucket or ripper floor angle at about 30°, and close the bucket rod. When the stick is close to vertical, the stick force is the largest and can carry more load. These two points are like if you bend your arms to lift things to save effort, or straighten your arms, of course, bend your arms.

04 When digging at the beginning, do not extend the stick to the maximum range of action, the best effect starts from about 80%. (When the stick's maximum action range, the stick's digging force is the smallest, and it is difficult to dig). Novices generally pay more attention to this.

05Bucket excavation range: The angle of the stick from 45° on the far side to 30° on the inside. There is a slight difference due to the digging depth, but the boom and bucket should be operated within this range, and should not be operated to the end of the stroke of the cylinder.

06 During continuous excavation, the chassis is placed in the forward direction, and you can walk immediately after the excavation is completed. If you want to go, change it again, and burn a lot of oil after the start.

07 When digging trenches, dig both sides of the trench first, then dig the middle part. This saves a lot of effort and effort when digging in the middle.

08 Put the engine throttle in the economy gear position. Select the auto idle function to let the engine run at idle speed when the digging is stopped.

09 Minimize the radius of gyration.

10 The smaller the digging depth, the better the economy when digging. Try to use segmented digging. It is divided into three layers of upper, middle and lower digging. If the digging is from low to top, the scope of action will be increased first. Secondly, the power of the excavator will be reduced due to the increase of the scope and the working efficiency will be reduced. This will cost a lot of oil.

These tips for fuel-saving operation may not even be noticed by old operators, but as long as they can develop good operating habits and accumulate over time, they can indeed save considerable fuel costs.
