Fault details:
During the construction of a 7400 hour Caterpillar cat336 excavator, the excavator monitoring panel became dark and could not be seen clearly
Failure cause analysis:
How to diagnose the alternator fault? Generally speaking, when the alternator is generating electricity, the alternator indicator should remain off. If the alternator indicator lights up when the excavator engine is running, there may be a problem with the alternator.
Fault inspection ideas:
1. stop the engine. Turn the key switch to the on position. Verify that the alternator indicator is illuminated.
2. then, start the engine and measure the voltage generated by the alternator when it is rotating. Measure the voltage between the terminals next to the alternator as described above. If the voltage is about 28V, the alternator works normally If the rated voltage is not emitted, there is some fault in the alternator or voltage regulator.
3. measure the voltage between the terminals of the alternator. If the measured voltage is about 24V, the alternator circuit is considered normal. If the measured voltage is low, the fault may be due to insufficient battery capacity or loose wire connectors. When the voltage is zero volts, the wires between the fuse block and the alternator are loose or open.
In addition, if the ground wire is open, the alternator cannot generate electricity.
