Causes And Troubleshooting Of Black Smoke From Excavator Diesel Engine

May 27, 2020

If the diesel engine emits black smoke, after excluding the above problems one by one, but still cannot be eliminated, you must consider that the diesel engine black smoke is caused by factors other than the diesel engine itself. These factors include:

(1) Fuel quality problems If inferior fuels are used, the diesel engine may cause serious black smoke. In addition, diesel engines have the following phenomena:

The power of the diesel engine is insufficient. The fuel filter of the diesel engine is often blocked. The diesel engine is not running normally, the speed is unstable or the acceleration is weak

(2) Environmental factors. The environmental temperature is too high, so that the fuel temperature and intake air temperature increase, fuel gasification and intake air volume relatively reduce, so that the combustion conditions become harsh, resulting in black smoke from the diesel engine.

The altitude is too high. After the altitude rises, as the altitude increases, the air density will decrease, and the oxygen content in the air will also decrease. Insufficient, resulting in black smoke from the diesel engine.

When environmental factors cause the diesel engine to emit black smoke, there are the following phenomena:

Insufficient power of the diesel engine. The temperature of the diesel engine may increase, and overheating may occur. The fuel consumption increases significantly. Caused.

Exclusion method: According to environmental factors, the output power and related parameters of the diesel engine shall be modified appropriately.

(3) Equipment matching problem The diesel engine emits black smoke failure. It may also be caused by the mismatch between the diesel engine and the power output device of the equipment or the equipment itself. If the diesel engine does not emit black smoke, but the gearbox or The thick smoke after the torque converter is probably caused by the mismatch between the diesel engine and the gearbox or torque converter.

The method to confirm whether the diesel engine is emitting black smoke due to equipment reasons is:

Start the diesel engine at medium speed and observe the smoke color of the exhaust port of the diesel engine. If there is a smoke measurement device, you can record the smoke value at this time.

Remove the coupling between the diesel engine and the equipment, start the medium-speed operation of the diesel engine, observe the smoke color of the exhaust pipe outlet, and measure the smoke value of the diesel engine at this time.

Compare the obtained smoke value to find out whether the black smoke from the diesel engine is caused by equipment factors. Especially when the diesel engine is idling, it is smokeless and colorless, as long as the load is working, the thick smoke rolls, and the speed drops seriously. This situation is mainly caused by the mismatch between the diesel engine and the equipment.

Removal method: repair equipment or replace the relatively matching power output device.
