The Price Of Second-hand Excavator Can't Be Sold? 5 Ways To Improve Resale Value

Jul 21, 2022

The resale value of construction machinery and equipment will not only be affected by the brand, service time, sales season or economic environment, but also the "energy" invested by the owner before the sale of old equipment is also very important.

If you are interested in selling your old equipment, here is a high-level list that can help you improve the resale value of the equipment and obtain more income. If you are interested, just watch it!

1. Improve the maintenance service history

Always keep a complete maintenance service history of the machine, showing the completed service and time, including which components or parts have been replaced.

The maintenance history can help you prove the condition of the machine, reflecting its service life and hours. This is especially important if you are going to sell a machine that has a large number of construction hours but is actually in good condition. For example, an excavator with a working time of 8000 hours may seem to have "gone through vicissitudes"; However, if the chassis and other key components have been repaired or replaced just a short time ago, the actual value of this machine will also be greatly increased, and the resale price will be better than other equipment with the same 8000 hours.

2. Keep the appearance clean and tidy

The buyer's initial impression of the machine is very important, so before selling, it's best to spend some time cleaning the machine to ensure that all sheet metal parts (appearance steel plates) are straight; Where the paint falls off, try to repair it, which can significantly improve the resale value of the machine. However, it should be noted that the color of the touch up paint should be consistent with that of the original paint, otherwise the result may be counterproductive, which will not only be more abrupt, but also make the buyer misunderstand that you are trying to hide some defects.

In addition, do not paint black parts such as coils, springs or hoses, as this may also indicate that you are trying to hide some invisible "hard wounds". Don't do too many unnecessary things - simply and uniformly repair on a clean machine. Going too far is better than going too far, which will backfire.

3. Ensure that the cab is clean and the operation console is in good condition

A clean and well functioning cab can show the buyer that the owner / operator maintains the machine well.

First, make sure that the cab is thoroughly cleaned and wiped clean. In addition, you also need to check all switches to ensure that each switch works properly. If there is a problem, replace or repair it immediately. Finally, don't forget the seat. A seat component is expensive, so please make sure it works and adjusts normally, otherwise you may have to deduct this cost from the resale value.

4. Ensure that there is no leakage in the pipeline

Check the whole machine for "running, emitting, dripping, leaking" and other phenomena, and repair it immediately if any. Even if it is not a serious leak, the buyer is likely to think that the machine has a bigger problem than "leakage".

5. Replace new parts in time

Replacing some parts of the machine may seem expensive in the early stage, but if you can recover the cost (or even make money) when you sell it, it is very worthwhile. For example, it is not uncommon for the back door of the excavator to be smashed in the demolition operation. It may cost a lot of money to replace it, but if you choose to replace it before resale, it will bring you several times the profit.

In short, regardless of the quality of the machine, ensuring that the machine looks good, clean and in a working state can help you improve the resale value; Having a maintenance service history can help you prove that every penny spent by the buyer can be traced when reselling the machine.
