Extend Engine Life? Pay Attention When Starting!

Apr 15, 2020

As we all know, the engine is the device that provides power to the vehicle and is the heart of the vehicle. It determines the power, economy, stability and environmental protection of the vehicle. The health of the engine is the top priority of the vehicle, so how should the engine be kept healthy?

Today, popularize the matters that the engine needs to pay attention to before starting. Only by careful treatment and keeping it in a "healthy" state can it improve its working efficiency and extend its life.

What do you need to pay attention to before starting the engine?

1. Avoid water tank without coolant or add it after starting

Adding coolant after starting the engine will cause the hot cylinder liner, cylinder head and other important parts to burst or deform due to sudden cold. Similarly, injecting 100 ° C boiling water into an ice-cold body will also crack the cylinder head and body.

Before starting the engine, the coolant must be added first. The choice of coolant needs to refer to the requirements in the "Operation and Maintenance and Maintenance Manual", which is forbidden to add tap water, warm water and other domestic water sources. It is recommended that you choose a long-acting organic coolant.

2. Avoid not supplying oil according to regulations

Everyone should not put the decompression handle in the "working" position before or after starting the engine, and then supply the oil. The throttle handle should be placed in the oil supply position before starting the engine.

The disadvantage of not operating according to this regulation is that when starting, if you increase the throttle supply first, it will cause a waste of fuel, and excess diesel will wash the cylinder wall, making the lubrication between the piston, piston ring and cylinder liner worsened Wear, and the residual oil flowing into the oil pan will dilute the engine oil and reduce the lubrication effect, resulting in excessive combustion of diesel in the cylinder will form carbon deposits.

The engine should be warmed up first, and then fueled by the throttle before starting.

3. Avoid starting the car

When the engine is cold and the engine oil is viscous, it will pull down and start, which will aggravate the wear between the moving parts and reduce the service life of the diesel engine.

4. Avoid not changing lubricating oil and fuel oil on schedule

The use of high-quality engine oil and the combination of suitable oil and oil filter replacement intervals are key factors in maintaining engine performance and durability.

5. Avoid directly adding oil to the cylinder

Adding oil to the cylinder can seal and boost the temperature and facilitate the cold start of the engine, but the oil cannot be completely burnt, which is easy to produce carbon deposits, which reduces the elasticity of the piston ring and reduces the sealing performance of the cylinder. In addition, it will accelerate the wear of the cylinder liner, resulting in a decrease in the power of the diesel engine, making it more difficult to start, so the engine oil cannot be directly added to the cylinder.

6. Avoid continuous start for a long time

The starter on the diesel engine works under the condition of low voltage and high current. Long-term use will damage the battery or even burn the starter. The continuous start time cannot exceed 15 seconds. If a start fails, it should be started again with an interval of about 20 seconds.

7. Avoid high-speed operation immediately after starting

After the engine is cold-started, the engine oil is in a cold state, the viscosity of the engine oil is high, and the flow resistance is also large, so that the time for the engine oil to enter the friction pair is lagging, and the engine parts are not fully lubricated, which causes the engine gears and bearings to be damaged and damaged due to poor lubrication Due to the wear of the cylinder and the bush, the burning of the bush and the shaft will occur in severe cases.
