How Does The Roller Compact The Soil? What Are The Compaction Techniques Of The Road Base Of The Road Roller?

Jun 18, 2020

Compaction skills of road base of road roller

Road roller is a kind of road repair equipment. It is widely used in various types of filling and compaction operations, and can be used to compact sand, semi-cohesive and cohesive soil, roadbed stable soil and asphalt concrete pavement. For a long period of time, people have been devoted to the development of large-tonnage rollers. The largest tire roller weighed more than 200 tons. However, during this period, the changes in rollers mainly reflected the improvement of power and shape. So do you know how the roller works?

1 Compaction of cement stabilized soil base

In the late stage of roller compaction, excessive stress or roller compaction time should be avoided to prevent the strength of cement stabilized soil from being reduced. At the end of "final pressure", a smooth-wheel roller should be used to improve the flatness of the base surface.

2 Compaction of lime stabilized soil base

Check the water content of the mixture before rolling.

After manual paving and reshaping, first use a tractor, or a 6-8t tandem roller, or a tire roller to roll it 1-2 times; then use a static light roller above 12t to roll until the mixture is compact When it reaches 95%-98%.

If lime stabilized soil is used as the base layer of high-grade pavement, the content of water and lime should be accurate.

3 Compaction of lime-stabilized industrial waste residue base

Compaction of 4-level aggregate base

The gap-filled gravel base should be divided into two steps when laying: first laying large gravel and compacting; then laying small gravel and finally compacting. For the first compaction, an 8-10t static tandem roller or a 5t vibratory roller should be used for rapid rolling, and all the interstitial material will be vibrated into the pores of coarse gravel. After the second laying of small gravel, continue to use a vibratory roller to roll.

After the pores on the surface of the crushed stone are completely filled, use a 12-15t static light roller to finish the pressure 1-2 times until the surface is flat and stable, no obvious wheel traces, and no creeping of stones.
