Excavation machinery is a kind of general or special mechanical equipment whose main purpose is to excavate earthwork and stonework. It is the most widely used important construction machinery in national economic construction. It is used in mining, water conservancy and hydropower construction, industrial and civil construction, transportation engineering, oilfield construction, port construction, farmland soil improvement, forestry engineering, national defense construction and other projects.
It plays a very important role in saving manpower, reducing physical labor, ensuring project quality, shortening construction period, reducing project cost and improving labor productivity.
There are two types of excavation machinery: intermittent (single bucket) excavator and continuous (multi bucket) excavator. Single bucket excavators for intermittent operation include mechanical transmission single bucket excavators (hereinafter referred to as mechanical excavators) and hydraulic transmission single bucket excavators (hereinafter referred to as hydraulic excavators). Continuous operation excavators include bucket wheel excavators, horizontal or vertical chain bucket excavators, wheel bucket trenchers, roll cutting excavators and tunnel boring machines. Intermittent single bucket excavator is the most widely used in engineering construction, accounting for more than 90% of the total amount of excavation machinery. At present, the most widely used single bucket excavator is hydraulic excavator, accounting for more than 98% of the average total output of single bucket excavator.
