Checking And Adjusting Tension Of Track Pad On Excavator

Dec 21, 2021

1. Inspection

(1) Run the engine at a low idle speed so that the machine runs forward the length of the track plate on the ground, then slowly stop the machine.

2. Place the iron bar on the track plate between the guide wheel and the first pulley. It is recommended to use angle steels, etc. as steel bars because of their small bending.

(3) As shown in Figure 2-37, the maximum clearance a between steel bar and track plate is measured, and the standard clearance should be 10-30mm.

2. Adjustment

If the track tension is incorrect, adjust as follows.

(1) Increase tension

(1) As shown in Figure 2-38, grease is filled with a grease gun through the grease nozzle.

(2) To check whether the tension is normal, run the engine at low idle speed and allow the machine to drive forward the length of the track plate on the ground, then slowly stop the machine

(3) After adjustment, check the tension of the caterpillar again according to the above methods.

Grease can be added as shown in Figure 2-39 until the dimension B between the guide plate of the guide wheel and the end of the crawler frame changes to 0 mm. If the tension is still low, the pin shaft and bushing are worn badly. In this case, reverse or replace pins and bushings.

(2) Reduce tension

(1) Loosen the valve, drain the grease, and then tighten the valve. Do not loosen the valve more than 1 turn. If the valve is screwed too loosely, the high pressure in the valve will cause the valve to squirt out.

(2) To check whether the tension is normal, run the engine at low idle speed and allow the machine to move forward the length of the track plate on the ground, then stop the machine slowly.

(3) After adjustment, check the tension of the caterpillar again according to the above methods.
