When the Cat 320C type excavator engine runs at full load, the fuel oil pump delivers fuel to the fuel filter and the fuel injection pump shell with the pressure of 76~245kPa. The following steps are used to check the fuel pressure of the fuel oil pump of the Carter 320C type excavator.
1 disconnect the fuel line on the filter at the entrance of the fuel injection pump housing.
2 install a three way pipe at the entrance and connect the fuel line to the three way pipe.
3 connect the pressure gauge to the three way pipe and start the engine.
If the fuel pressure is not greater than 76kPa, perform the following steps:
(1) stop the engine running.
Replace the fuel filter.
Ensure that the inlet screen of the fuel oil pump is not blocked or damaged.
(4) ensure that the fuel pipe is not blocked or damaged.
Ensure that the fuel hose is not blocked or damaged.
Start the engine and check the fuel pressure again.
If the fuel pressure is still below 76kPa, the fuel delivery pump is faulty. If the fuel delivery pump fails, repair or replace the fuel delivery pump.
